Lancaster Compost Co-ops (Acting Editor)
I am a proud member of the Lancaster Compost Co-ops here in Lancaster City, PA.
The Co-op’s goal is to provide all city residents with community sites for recycling organic waste.
Currently, around 30% of the city’s solid-waste stream consists of organic matter. And by diverting organics from from landfills we can reduce costs, slow climate change and build a more resiliant local community.
Plus, composting creates compost! A high-quality soil ammendment that grows healthier plants and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers.
The Lancaster Compost Co-op is an entirely volunteer-run organization. And upon joining, I promptly offered my services as an editor and content creator.
Currently, I am auditing the website layout and copy. Next month, the co-op releases its first monthly newsletter (which I am the acting editor of).
Here’s a FAQ page I am currently working on. A side-by-side comparison shows the edited version to be about 400 words shorter. No meaning is lost, and it’s a lot easier to read.
As this project develops I’ll continue to add here. In the meantime, check out the Lancaster Compost Co-ops. It’s a great organization!
